Demo Fight

For this game I’ve been working hard on creating the “protagonist” characters. Which was based on a little piggie that looks like this:

Original Idea
Prototype

I took a few concepts and tried to pixelate it to see how it would look. Since he’s a silly looking pig, I decided to make him to do some silly things. Such as juggle.

Then I started to get to work on creating a more realistic looking character, that still fit the silly style that was originally proposed. And ending up with a final draft that looks like this. Due to the nature of the game the character would have to have multiple views. Such as a back view, side (left and right) view, and a front view. As well as idle animations and walking animations for these views.

Here are the walking views but enlarged so you can see the details better!

I joined the team about 3 weeks ago, because my final project fell through and I wasn’t able to implement it how I wanted to with how short on time I was especially with other classes. But I’m also planning to work on background, enemy characters, and more in the upcoming week.

So far the experience of being a pixel artist has been rewarding, to learn about how a GIF is actually made. I had no idea the amount of time and patience it takes to actually make one and have a newfound appreciation of the art.

Each gif takes about 8–9 different frames, with my original being over 20. Here’s what the sprite sheets look like.

Overall this game is a turn based game that features different attacks, walks, and animations for the background that took a lot of time and care into it. The gameplay might seem a little slow at first, but the game has a lot of promise when you get into it and more levels come up.
